FAQ Answers

Q: Which software samplers and hardware are compatible with the sounds from SoundBrewer.com?
A: Click here to visit the sampler compatibility page.

Q: What are SoundFont banks?
A: SoundFont technology is a sample format that was invented by E-MU / ENSONIQ for the purpose of creating a flexible wavetable synthesis solution for Creative Labs. E-MU / ENSONIQ brought their expertise, which set the standard for professional sample formats, and created a solution that has been used for consumer and professional applications.

Q: What are GigaStudio banks?
A:
GigaStudio is the propriety format of the Tascam GigaStudio/Sampler. It was developed as the first software sampler with the ability to stream audio files from the hard drive, enabling sound designers to create far more realistic samples. The .gig format has grown and is supported by a large number of software samplers.

Q: What does it mean when a sound is “Instantly Downloaded?”
A:
A lot of the sounds we sell are available for immediate download. You just pay with Visa/Master card, or Paypal and you will be sent an email with a link to download the sounds for immediate use.

Q: I already have one of your sample CD's. How do I know if the sound I am downloading is the same as one I already have?
A:
Generally there is no overlap between any of the sample collections. However, occasionally we offer a single sound from a larger collection available as a separate item. Anytime this is the case it will be noted in the item description.

Q: I have EXS24, Reason, Kontakt, HALion, etc., will you ever offer these sounds in this format?
A:
SoundBrewer.com offers its sounds in GigaStudio and SoundFont format because these formats are supported in nearly every software sampler. We have many customers who purchase both SoundFont and GigaStudio format sounds to use in Kontakt and EXS24, HALion, Reason, etc. because they are fully compatible.

Q: I have GigaSampler, not GigaStudio. Can I still use the sounds you sell for GigaStudio?
A:
Unless otherwise marked, our samples are GigaStudio version 2.x or 3.x. It is recommended that you use GigaStudio 2.x or GigaStudio 3.x.

Q: Are your SoundFonts in .sf2 format?
A:
Yes, all of the SoundFonts are in .sf2 version 2.1, the latest format.

Q: I want to buy one of your sample packages that are only available as a download, however I have a dial up connection and it will take me to long. Can I get a Custom CD made of the sounds that I want?
A:
Yes. Please contact us about special custom discs available of downloaded samples.

Q: How long does it take until I receive my order?
A:
If you ordered your sounds as a download you should receive an email immediately after your order is completed. (Please be sure that you set you spam filters accordingly so that you will receive the confirmation email) If you ordered disc's they generally will be mailed in 24hrs. It usually takes 2-3 business days for domestic shipping (4-7 for international shipping).

Q: Are transactions on SoundBrewer.com secure?
A:
Yes, shop with confidence. Our web site employs the latest SSL encryption to protect your sensitive data and transactions.

Licensing

Q: Do I have to pay additional licensing fees if the recording I use these samples on goes platinum, or is in a hit movie?
A: No, your original purchase of the disc is your only license fee ever, and you may use it in as many recordings as you want. Remember, the samples may only be used by the person the disc is licensed to.

Q: Do I have to credit this disc if I use it on a recording?
A: No. You never have to give us credit as the source of your sounds. However, any recognition is appreciated and we have been known to do nice things for those who credit us as the source of their sounds.

Q: Can I form a group to buy and share discs? or Can my writing partner, brother, girlfriend, dog, use these samples once I've licensed the disc?
A: No, each person who uses the sounds must purchase their own copy (which licenses them to use the sounds). Anyone other than the original purchaser of the disc, who uses the sounds, is doing so illegally. The only fee we collect is the initial purchase fee, we do not charge on a per use basis. Contact us regarding package deals for groups, companies, and churches.

Q: Since we cannot share the sounds, do you offer package deals for writing partners, schools, religious organizations, etc.?
A: Yes, contact us about special deals for organizations and groups.

Q: Can I offer SoundBrewer sounds to clients as part of my recording studio or rental company services? Or, as a freelance sound designer, can I put custom compilation discs together which include your sounds for my composer clients?
A: No. Each person who uses the sounds (the artist) must be a licensed user. Otherwise, this will cause legal problems for the studio or rental clients.

Q: Can I use these sounds to make DLS, or my own custom sound sets?
A: No. Any such usage is prohibited. The sounds are only for use in a live or recorded musical performance. Any other use violates the license agreement.

Q: Can I use these samples to make my own loop CD's? (example: Can I use your drum sounds to make my own drum loop CD?)
A: No, the samples are solely for use in musical or recorded performances. They cannot be used to create more soundware. For example you can not use the sounds from SoundBrewer to make loop CDs, or other sample Cd's. The sounds can only be used for the purpose or music creation.

Q: Is it OK to sell the used disc to someone else if I'm finished with the project that I needed it for?
A: No. Unlike hardware, music gear, music CDs, and even some software, you cannot give away or sell SoundBrewer sounds or discs to anyone else. When you purchase from SoundBrewer you do not purchase the disc, you purchase a non-transferable license to use the sounds.
