Released by Sequential Circuits in 1985 the Prophet 2000 was primarily a 12 bit sampler. It had great sounding analog 4 pole filters and VCA's to give it a very 'fat' sound. The Prophet 2000 shipped with a bank of 16 sampled waveforms, and contains 12 presets from the Prophet-5.
The keyboard had 8 voices of polyphony. However, with the sampled version you have as much polyphony as your computer can support. In addition, with the sampled version you are not limited to just one sound at a time, you can use your software sampler to utilize as many simultaneous sounds as you like. The Prophet 2000 has been used by Hardfloor, Depeche Mode, filmmaker/composer John Carpenter, and D:ream.
