The Korg Poly 800 was a milestone keyboard. It has eight DCOs that can be allocated to eight single-oscillator voices or four dual-oscillator voices. It contains three six-stage envelope generators, a chorus unit, and a 256-step sequencer.
The Poly 800 was known for its excellent bass, strings, pianos, pads, and sound effects. It has a warm, crackling, real analog sound to it, good for harsh, bright, sparkly textures. The keyboard contains two waveforms, sawtooth and square. It features a 49-note (C-C) non-velocity keyboard.
The sampled version of this keyboard has many advantages over the hardware unit. You are not limited to just one sound at a time, you can use your software sampler to utilize as many simultaneous sounds as your computer can support. The software version also has unlimited polyphony, and velocity sensitivity. The Korg Poly 800 has been used by Orbital, Depeche Mode, Sneaker Pimps, and Jimi Tenor.
