SoundBrewer :: HALion Tutorial :: How to Load GigaStudio banks or SoundFonts
How to load GigaStudio (.gig) or SoundFonts (.sf2) in Steinberg HALion
1. If you have purchased Instantly Downloaded sounds from SoundBrewer you will want to first unzip the files and copy them to your hard drive. (We suggest you create a directory like “c:\SoundBrewer Samples”, although you can create any directory, or unzip the files to your desktop.)
If you have purchased a sample disc you can load the sounds directly off of the disc, or copy them to your hard drive.
2. Open HALion and click the ‘Import' button.

3. Click ‘Select a Device' drop down menu and choose either ‘Browse for SoundFont' or ‘Browse for Giga.'

3. Browse to the folder with the unzipped samples (for example 'C:\soundBrewer Samples'), or to your CD-Rom Drive, and double select the folder with the GigaStudio (.gig) or SoundFont (.sf2) files

4. Select the file you want to load from the File row. Then click the 'IMPORT' buttom under the Program row.

5. When you load a .gig or .sf2 file in HALion it is converted and saved in HALion format. Select the folder you want to save the converted files in.

6. Choose your parameters, or you can leave the default values. Then click the ' Import' button.
7. You are done, the GigaStudio or SoundFont file is now loaded.
You can edit the sample to get more control over the sound, or use the file as it is.
